23rd February 2011 was the 27th National Day of Brunei Darussalam and it's also the first time in my 30 years' stay in Brunei that I took part in the National Day Parade representing the Persatuan Warganegara Malaysia (PWM). Prior to the event, we had six rehearsals (I attended only two!) and everything went very well with two personnels from the Fire Rescue Department (Jabatan Bomba) as our marching instructors. On the actual day itself, we were assembled at the Yayasan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Building at 8.00am. Initially there was a little drizzle and the day became hotter later in the morning. Our turn to march past His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, other royal family members and dignitaries came at around 10.00am and it was all over in less than 20 minutes! Anyway, I'm proud to be a part of this year's celebrations and hopefully will participate again next year.
