We started our journey on 10 July 2014, departing Brunei for Hong Kong at 10.30am and arriving at Hong Kong at 1.35pm. From HKIA, we travelled by bus to Sheung Shui where we took the train to Lo Wu before proceeding to Guangzhou by train. From Guangzhou, we took a normal train (arranged by our friend from Guangzhou) at 8.00pm and reached Zhangjiajie the next morning at 10.00am! A 14 hours' ride of my life! As its the summer holidays in China, the train was packed and even the 1st class cabins were sold out. The three decker beds were very uncomfortable, especially for those on the top deck! You can imagine total strangers staring at you while you were sleeping and feeling very insecure and unsafe. All lights were switched off at 9.30pm and everyone were preparing to go to sleep. I couldn't sleep the whole night even after drinking 3 cans of Tsingtao beer! In the morning when everyone is loitering along the narrow corridor, I felt like I was in a refugee camp! Actually, there is a faster way to Zhangjiajie which we will try on the return leg of our journey.
