Happy Birthday! Salina...

Last night we celebrated Salina's 13th birthday. A few family friends and colleagues were invited to our house for a birthday gathering. The birthday cake, as usual is the unique creation of the pastry chef at Patisserie Cake Shop. Since she's 13 years old now, no more children's price when we go for buffets next time! We used to tell the waiters/waitresses at the restaurants we dined in that she is still below 12 to get the children's rate! Happy Birthday! Salina...

"Ji Dao Ge Moral Uplifting" Society

The "Ji Dao Ge Moral Uplifting" Society of Brunei held its 3rd Anniversary Dinner at Chung Hwa School in Bandar Seri Begawan last night, attended by more than 1,000 guests with more than half of them (members of similar organizations) from overseas. The venue was originally planned at the International Convention Centre in Berakas but due to unforseen circumstances was relocated to the Scouts Building (2nd choice). However, the Scouts Building was deemed unsuitable due to logistic problems and the function was finally held at the Chung Hwa School. With such last minute changes, they still manage to pull it off and I can see that the volunteers are working their socks off. This is a non-profit charitable organization which is committed to helping the poor and needy so let's pledge our support for them and may this organization have many more anniversaries to come!

My First Platinum Cards!

My first Platinum cards! All these while I've been using this particular bank's gold cards and I usually chalked up quite a bit of expenses on my credit cards on travel, dining or accomodation. Based on my spending pattern (or maybe my good payment records), they've upgraded my gold cards to platinum cards; with the annual fees waived for 3 years! Credit cards are very useful in an emergency, especially when you are overseas but a bit of advice though, do not spend beyond your means and always pay in full every month as interest rates charged by card companies are as high as 24% per annum! I do know of individuals who pay by installments and end up servicing their "loans" for a long time and some would choose to default!. Always use cash whenever possible. (For security reasons, certain numbers in the above photo have been erased).

Canon IXUS 980 IS

On 30th September 2009, I received an sms from a friend who was in Hong Kong at the time that there was an offer for a Canon IXUS camera and since I've been blogging for a month now, I decided to reward myself with a new digital camera and I sms him to get it for me. He replied that he already did even before he receive my sms! What a beauty it turned out to be; it's a Canon IXUS 980 IS. At 14.7 megapixels, it's the most powerful digital camera in the IXUS series. It also comes with a 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3.7x optical zoom, optical image stabilizer (no more blur photos), face detection technology, 8GB SD memory card (which fitted into my laptop's card reader without any extensions or adaptors) and even a spare battery! It sports a very unusual curvy and rounded design (great handling and feel) uncharacteristic of other IXUS models which I have seen; all of which are usually in plain rectangular shape. COOL!

Patisserie Cake Shop

Patisserie Cake Shop is located at the Ground Floor of Traders Inn, Brunei Darussalam and has been in operation for over a year. It caters to a niche market of cake lovers who are attracted to Patisserie Cake Shop for its delicious and uniquely decorated cakes which are not available anywhere else in Brunei (sound so biase, hehe). Price-wise, it's definitely cheaper compared to other cake shops of the same standard. Anyway, they also serve hot food and drinks and business hours are between 8.00am to 10.00pm. For enquiries, call +673 2425618 or order online at www.patiscakeshop.com (Source: Patisserie Cake Shop).
